For Girl Scouts who are looking to earn their Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award: Come learn about the new requirements and start brainstorming ideas with the other girls. Advisors and parents are encouraged to attend. This training is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. The event is free of charge, but you must submit a Council Activity Registration Form. This form is also available at our Service Centers.

Indoor Rock Climbing

Sunday, March 14, 2010, 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Lindseth Cliumbing Wall, Cornell University

Open to Girl Scouts in grades 4–8
Girls will spend two hours learning basic rock climbing techniques at the largest indoor natural rock climbing wall in North America, all while working their way to the top. Girls will work on their own pace to try different routes along the wall, will wear a helmet, and will be belayed by climbing wall staff. Helmets and shoes are provided. This activity begins at 10:45 a.m.

Science Discovery

Scientists ask questions and find answers. Put your own investigative power to the test as we create many different experiments. We will make a kaleidoscope, do some water tricks, and test our skills with some optical illusions. Girls will earn the Science Discovery badge.

Energy Explorers!

What is geothermal energy? How can a rock transfer heat to water? What does a "green" roof look like? Come find out at the Syracuse Center of Excellence. You will learn about geothermal energy, get a tour of a green, energy efficient building, and do some experiments. You will become a green energy expert!! All materials and a snack will be provided. Tag-Along with Synchro!

Experience a day in the life of a synchronized swimmer with the BGC Gaviatas Synchronized Senior Swim Team! Learn the basics including yoga and choreography, then perform an actual team routine. Demonstrate your inner beauty and artistic ability by designing and decorating your own Synchro swimsuit costume! Girls must be able to swim 50 yards, be comfortable underwater and in the deep end of the pool. Please bring your own towel, swimsuit, shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers. One piece bathing suits are preferred but not mandatory.

an Earth Week Take-Action Project!

9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24 to 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 25
Amahami Outdoor Center, Sanford, NY

Open to Girl Scouts in grades K–12 and Adults
Complete an Earth Week Take-Action Project by helping to get Amahami ready for camping! Enjoy a weekend at the gorgeous Amahami Outdoor Center for half the normal rental price! During this popular annual program, participants will work from 9:00 a.m. to noon on a variety of projects such as erecting tents and completing other projects to prepare Amahami for the camping season. On Saturday afternoon, participants may join other weekend visitors at Fletcher Lodge for Amahami Celebrates Earth Day! activities.
  To receive the half-price discount, it is mandatory that perticipants spend Saturday morning working with the rangers; you are welcome to help out on Sunday as well—there's a lot to do!

Wicked Theater Trip

Did you know that the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch were once friends? Find out what happened during this bewitching musical. We've even arranged a stage tour for you to see the magic of Munchkinland and OZ!

Tickets and transportation are included in the participant fee. A $30 deposit (non-refundable, but can be transferred to another person) is required by February 26, 2010. The final payment is due no later than April 9, 2010. Please bring a bag lunch and dinner.

Come enjoy the weekend while we help open Camp Trefoil for the 2010 season. Friday night we will spend time getting to know each other while we learn what work needs to be done. Saturday we will spend the day working around camp. Saturday night there will be fun activities for just relaxing with friends. Sunday morning we will finish our projects and go home. This is a great opportunity for girls to earn service hours. Participants are welcome to spend the weekend or just come for the day. Please let us know what your plans are when registering.

Open to registered Girl Scouts of all ages!
Girl Scouts, this is an opportunity unlike any other! Help out on a real archeological dig! Ball Farmstead is an excavation site in the Finger Lakes National Forest. Under the guidance of Dr. LouAnn Wurst of Western Michigan University, participants will help excavate the Ball Farmstead archeological site. Girl Scouts can choose to help out for one day, or all of them! Free camp sites on Seneca Lake will be provided for those who need overnight accommodations. Participants will provide their own food and overnight gear.
  Girl Scouts will learn about land use changes over time, from bustling towns and farmsteads to pasture land and a place of multiple use management. They will learn about the plight of the American farmer in the 1900's and the Great Depression, and how that transformed the landscape today. They will learn the importance of archeological preservation, the concept of multiple use management, and how the National Forests differ from other agencies such as the National Park Service. They will gain tactical and practical skills such as record keeping, measuring, sifting, and troweling. They will learn basic hands-on archaeology skills and terms such as stratigraphy, provenance, and the importance of research, records, and maps. And so much more!
  This program is open to troops and chaperoned Juliettes; at least one adult for every three girls participating please.
  Our new Journey series, It’s Your Story: Tell It! is just around the corner. This program is a wonderful compliment to the new Journey and a terrific, helpful Take-Action project!

Have you ever wanted to visit a museum after hours? Here’s your chance! Stay overnight at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) and earn the Aerospace badge. Enjoy an IMAX movie and all that the MOST has to offer. An evening snack and light breakfast are included. One chaperone per eight girls is required. Chaperones must be appointed female Girl Scout volunteers and are limited to two per group. If your group size exceeds 12, you may bring an additional adult.

Erie Canal Canoe Trip

Lock #19, Frankfort, NY

Open to Girl Scouts in grades 4–12
Enjoy a day on the Erie Canal. We will meet at Lock #19 at Frankfort, have lunch, and launch our canoes. We will canoe down the canal to the Ilion Marina, where we will have a cookout. This trip is approximately 10 miles. Girls are welcome to bring their own kayaks if they prefer.
