Girl Scouting is a movement that began nearly 100 years ago in 1912 through the vision of one woman, Juliette Gordon Low. Girl Scouts is a movement that motivates its members to reach inside themselves and with the support of peers and caring adults, to become strong leaders in many contexts, starting with taking charge of one’s own life, and then making that life meaningful through action taken with others to make the world a better place.
Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways was formed in July 2009 from five legacy councils:
Girl Scouts Council of Central New York, Inc. served girls in Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland and portions of western Madison County
Girl Scouts–Foothills Council, Inc.
Foothills served girls of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, most of Madison County and parts of Otsego, Lewis, and Hamilton counties.
Girl Scouts–Indian Hills Council, Inc. served girls in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and parts of Tioga and Cortland Counties.
Girl Scouts–Seven Lakes Council, Inc.
Seven Lakes served girls in 11 counties in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier Regions of New York — Allegany, Cayuga, Chemung, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Yates and Wayne; and two counties in Pennsylvania — Bradford and Tioga. The council was incorporated in 1961.
Thousand Islands Girl Scout Council, Inc.
Thousand Islands served Lewis, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence Counties and was incorporated in 1963.
Each of the five councils has a rich history of bringing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to thousands of girls through the care and dedication of thousands of adult volunteers.
